I am from the foothills
from Tide and sports teams.

I am from summer nights on the soccer field.

I am from Fuzzy,
the cat that I loved for years,
and from all the stray cats
that my family took in.

I am from hanging baskets with Impatients,
and from swing sets in the backyard.

I am from mama's dirt cake
and daddy's sausage balls.
From my best friend, my sister.

I am from Christmas morning breakfast
and from Easter's Sunday best.
From fourth of July fireworks.

I am from summer vacations at the beach
and trips to Dollywood with church.

I am from family gatherings and food.
From my grandparents stories.

I am from best friend sleepovers
and skate nights at school.
From awkward middle school dances
and prom night with my friends.

I am from Southern Baptist church services,
and Saturdays shopping in town.

I am from Friday afternoons with my niece and nephew,
From friends and family.
I am from the south.
